Hey Wes, thanks so much for all that info it extremely helpful, and we do have leaf springs for you. For your 3,200 lb tandem axle trailer there is a leaf spring with the right capacity that also measures 26 inches long eye to eye and has four leaves; the leaf spring you can use is the following:
- 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e77SR
The # e77SR is rated for 1,000 lbs (so 4,000 lbs total for your tandem axle trailer) and is 1-3/4 inches wide. Each leaf is 1/4 inch thick so the spring is... view full answer...
Since you have a tandem axle trailer rated for 10,500lbs the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,300-lb Trailer Axles # e76SR are going to be the closest leaf springs we have to that weight capacity. These springs measure 24-7/8" from center of eye to center of rear eye before it is loaded. I do recommend measuring your leaf spring from the center of the eye along the curve to the center pin to verify if these will work as a replacement at 13-1/4". If your springs are a lot shorter than this... view full answer...
Hey Matt; for leaf springs what you want is one that at least meets the axle rating of your trailer, so a 5,000 lb spring won't work. Instead, go with the 5,300 lb or 6,000 lb springs. That said, we don't have anyway of knowing exactly what leaf spring is on any one trailer, so you will have to do just a bit of measuring.
All you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes, and leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you can go with ones... view full answer...
You're 100% right, Wes. For axles with a 3,200 lb rating you would need higher rated leaf springs, and for 26 inch long springs we have both standard and dacromet leaf springs that will work. Dacromet are great because their coating gives them rust protection that's perfect for boat trailers, though I did want to give you the option for both. Each rated for 4,000 lb axles (so 2,000 lbs per spring):
- Dacromet: 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e48SR
- Standard: 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e22YR view full answer...
Hey Jacques, so based off of those measurements it looks like the etrailer Rust-Resistant 4-Leaf Slipper Spring for 4,300-lb Trailer Axles # e33SR is going to work best for you.
This spring measures 26 1/4" (same as 2/8) long from spring eye to end of spring, 13 1/8" from eye bolt to center of the spring, and has a capacity of 2,150 lbs.
I've also gone ahead and attached the entire diagram of this spring with measurements for you to check as well. view full answer...
Hi Jim,
There will be no issue whatsoever replacing your 7-leaf spring with the 6-leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # e64SR.
Technically, the more leaves there are, the more resistance, so leaf springs with more leaves will be a bit more rigid and stiff. If you were going from a leaf spring with 7 leaves to a spring with 2 leaves it's possible you'll notice a slight difference in ride, but going from 7 to the # e64SR with 6 leaves won't have any impact. view full answer...
Hi Carrie, I can help you determine the right replacement double-eye leaf springs for your Grand Design Imagine trailer. It's pretty easy to figure out, as all you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes, and you also need to know the weight rating of your axle (which should be printed on a sticker or tag on the axle itself).
Leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit shorter than what you currently... view full answer...
The 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e34SR will be a good replacement for your 2021 Grand Design 31MB, provided the stock leaf spring is also 25-1/4" long. The suspension is all designed based on a specific length of spring, so it is critical that the replacement springs are identical in size to the stock springs. A 5-leaf 6,000 rated spring will definitely give you more support than the 4-leaf 5,200 lb springs.
It is possible that you will need longer U-bolts, but it really depends on how... view full answer...
Thanks for the picture! I have something close to your 26" slipper springs. It is possible to switch to a two eye leaf spring or even go down to a four leaf spring with a higher capacity. If you wanted to switch it up to a two eye leaf spring I would need to know the distance from the center of the two bolts. You can email me back that measurement if you decide to make the change.
The 26-1/4" Long 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Open Eye End item # e33SR with a protective coating is the closest... view full answer...
Since your trailer is a Shoreland'r I may be able to get the correct part information from the manufacturer if you can provide me with your VIN information. If you have the trailer where you can measure and send me images of the leaf springs that will allow me to more quickly see if we have any replacements for your leaf springs. view full answer...
I have a couple options you can look at first but without knowing exactly what suspension you have I can not say what will work. First if you have double eye leaf springs we do have the Tandem Axle Lift Kit # RR23QX which allows you to raise the trailer 1-1/4" or 2-1/4". These bolt to the spring hangers but again they are only for trailers with double eye leaf springs.
Another option would be an axle flip kit to place the axle below the leaf springs if it currently mounts on top of the... view full answer...
I was able to determine your 2020 Grand Design Imagine 2970RL travel trailer will have come with 4,400lb tandem axles. Since you determined they leaf springs are 26" you will want to use the 4,500LB Springs # e27SR. The 4,000LB Springs # e22YR you found will to easily sag under the weight of your camper.
It is best to replace your leaf springs in pairs for the axle but as the springs are also tied together with an equalizer it is best to replace all 4 springs together so one axle doesn't... view full answer...
The Roadmaster Comfort RIde Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks is going to give you the better ride between the two and is the best option available. The Silent Ride is a nice upgrade but it is not as comprehensive as the Roadmaster. It also doesn't have the same limited lifetime warranty that comes with the Comfort Ride. Neither of these are designed to lift your trailer.
If you have an underslung axle (leaf springs running under the axle) you can flip the axle using # K71-384-00 (2-3/8"... view full answer...
The picture with the torn up bushing looks like the eye of your slipper spring. Is that correct? If so, it is coming undone and probably the reason you're having this problem. It should be enclosed and not look similar to the hook on the end of the slipper spring. Replacing your leaf springs will likely solve the issue. This is a new 2023 trailer so you also might want to check to see if the dealer is willing to cover any repairs. That isn't exactly normal unless you're grossly overloading... view full answer...
Hi James,
You can swap out the leaf springs to help reduce wear but you'll most likely notice a little bit stiffer of a ride, but not enough to really matter. To find the correct replacement you'll first need to measure the leaf spring so that we can find a compatible replacement. I've attached two diagrams below to show you how measure your leaf springs. Once you have the measurements let me know and I'd be happy to look for a replacement.
Another option to help support your suspension... view full answer...
Hey Sam; thanks for the question and yes it is possible to go from a 3,500 lb torsion axle to a spring leaf axle on your boat trailer. You'll need to have new hangers welded on, as well as get leaf springs and, of course, the axle itself. For the hanger kit you can go with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs - 3-1/4" Front, 1-1/4" Rear # APS4 which gives you 5 inches of distance between the center of the axle and the trailer frame.
For 3,500 lb leaf springs you can... view full answer...
Those look pretty worn out so I would replace them. The one leaf definitely should not be misaligned with the rest of the stack. I can't tell if the front are in the photos or not. Personally I would replace all four but at a minimum you need to replace in pairs so that would be the two rear leaf springs.
Since your flat measurement is 26-1/2" you can use the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles # e64SR as a replacement. The same measurement on these leaf springs is 26-3/8"... view full answer...
Yes, if you'd like you can use the 30" Long 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles # UG34FR on your 3,500 lb axle. Your trailer will ride stiffer but it is certainly something you can do if you desire. view full answer...
You'll need the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE23002, 9/16" Bolts like part # 126B2 and then one of the following leaf spring sizes:
- 23-1/8" Long # e59SR
- 25-1/8" Long # e68SR
- 27" Long # e97SR
To get the correct leaf spring length you just need to lift the weight off of your leaf springs and measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the other bolt hole and then choose whichever spring best matches what you currently have. view full answer...
Hey John, so you ideally measure the length of the leaf spring when there isn't a load on it. So that would mean your need something shorter than 25 inches. The closest option would be the part # e59SR which is 23-1/8 inches and is for a 3,500 lb axle. Normally when springs are worn out they stretch out and are longer since the spring flattens so there's a good chance this would work but it would need to be less than 24 inches when there's no load on the spring. view full answer...
